Roster Application Guidelines

The 2011 guidelines and application will be posted here in February 2011.  For your reference, the 2010 guidelines and application are available here and below.  Please do not use this application for the 2011 deadline - your application will be deemed ineligible.

Artist Roster Eligibility

  • Individual artists (defined as artists who tour and perform solo, without accompaniment): primary residence (domicile) must be in Pennsylvania.
  • Performing arts companies/groups (defined as having more than one performer):  at least 50% of the company's artists must have their primary residence (domicile) in Pennsylvania AND the company's primary place of business must be located in Pennsylvania.
  • Student-based performing groups must perform regularly off-campus for professional fees to be eligible.

Roster Term

Artists selected for inclusion in the 2011 PennPAT Artist Roster will be eligible for all roster benefits for one year - from January 2011 through December 2011.  Roster artists will have an opportunity to renew their roster status in 2011 for the 2012 roster, providing they meet basic renewal criteria.  All roster artists must reapply in June 2012 and undergo panel review for inclusion in the 2013 artist roster.

Review Process & Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of experts from the field of performing arts touring and presenting, according to the following two criteria.

Artistic Merit

Artists must demonstrate quality via audio and/or video samples and through documentation of reviews, recommendations, etc. Specific indicators of artistic merit include:

  • artistry
  • program substance and/or educational value
  • technical proficiency
  • professional staging/presentation
  • cultural authenticity, if applicable
  • range of repertoire, if applicable

Touring Readiness

Artists must demonstrate that they have appropriate management resources and are capable and available to tour. Specific indicators of touring readiness include:

  • a history of touring
  • willingness and availability to perform throughout the mid-Atlantic region during the defined granting period
  • realistic understanding of touring costs
  • having a qualified, designated person with whom presenters can make arrangements
  • quality of promotional materials used for marketing to presenters and available for presenters to use in promoting their events

Proposal Writing Tips

  • Applications must be typed using a 10-point or larger, readable font.
  • Proofread your application for typographical, spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Make sure all photocopies are readable.
  • Answer all questions in the space provided - be concise.
  • Do not submit additional pages or materials that were not requested.
  • Ask someone who is not familiar with your work to proofread your application for clarity.
  • Do not staple applications - use paperclips.
