PROPHECY Music Project
PROPHECY Music Project is an ensemble of virtuosic artist-scholars committed to studying, performing, preserving and exploring traditional African and African Diasporan music and dance. PROPHECY is led by Osubi Craig, a fourth generation percussionist whose “creation of mini improvisational compositions ... (is) nothing short of phenomenal” (Lincoln Center Institute). Traditional instruments including congas, bata drums, djembes, sekeres, guitars, and trumpets speak to the histories of the African diaspora in the hands of PROPHECY’s accomplished musicians.
Repertoire includes African Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Latin percussion, Capoeira, jazz, blues and African American spirituals. Touring programs include “Water Suite” and “Lamban.” Complementary activities include the lecture “The Djembe: Old World to New” and a rumba workshop.
