Phyllis Chapell & SIORA
"Creating a soundscape that needs
no translation, multicultural and
multilingual Siora takes songs from
around the world — from Latin America
to Europe to the Middle East and
beyond — and transforms them using
the universal language of jazz.”
(William Page, Straight No Chaser).
Siora features vocalist/guitarist Phyllis Chapell
backed up by keys, bass, percussion, and optional
flute/ saxophone. Their JazzWeek Top
50 release “Vis-à-vis” received a 4*
rating by Scott Yanow (All Music Guide), who named Chapell as one of the top 500 jazz vocalists of all time in his book The Jazz Singers: The Ultimate Guide.
Siora’s repertoire consists of original
compositions and songs in 12 languages
from Brazil and Latin America, Europe,
Africa, the Middle East, and the United
States, all with Siora’s unique
arrangements. Complementary activities
include “Latitude Adjustment,” a hands-on
workshop exploring Latin American
rhythms.
