Tempesta di Mare
Tempesta di Mare performs baroque
music on period instruments with
“a zest and virtuosity that transcends
style and instrumentations.” (Philadelphia’s
City Paper) The ensemble has toured
from Oregon to Prague and recently to
Germany’s Göttingen Handel Festival.
The ensemble has been broadcast
nationally on NPR’s “Performance
Today” and worldwide through the
European Broadcast Union. Led by
lutenist Richard Stone and flutist Gwyn
Roberts, Tempesta di Mare’s programs
feature both familiar favorites and new
discoveries. “The energy of a rock solo
and the craft of a classical cadenza.”
(The Washington Post)
Touring programs include “Madame
Levy’s Salon,” a program of Bach family
treasures; “Flaming Rose,” featuring
Handel’s nine German arias, plus two
trio sonatas; and “Ain’t Love Grand,” a
program of Italian cantatas and chamber
music for soprano and instruments.
Complementary activities include interactive
pre-concert talks, master classes, and
ensemble coachings for amateur and
pre-professional musicians.
